This pin is of an old personal character's icon based on the icons of the show ReBoot. The back was fitted with four NIB magnets. At least the front came out okay.
Update: This piece was lost on Sunday the 20th of April while heading out for take-out, the day after the convention. It's gone. I am working on a replacement. I'm very happy that I got to wear it all around the ReBoot gathering though, even if such a sentimental item has been lost forever. The original backing with a cheesy hand-drawn icon on it is still being used for the new one. : )
dude! thats freaking awsome hell the one i made didn't come out looking this good and how'd you make the back is it a print or something and sorry it got lost but i hope as flipping awsome as this was. the new one has to be insanely great
Thanks a ton! Actually, the new one looks just like the original, so these days, I don't miss it. How often does that get to happen when you lose something you enjoyed?
It's Sculpey clay, and it started out messy every time, but I have a habit of being nitpicky and a pest to myself. If I do more, I'll make a mould.
After the shape is achieved, it's baked, washed, then tape is applied, cut to the right shapes to block off extra.
First one color is sprayed on.
After that, drying time.
Then more tape over the sprayed areas to block off color bleed.
Then the second color is sprayed on.
The process needs patience, but if done slowly and methodically, it comes out very nice.
After that, spots are cut out for neodynium magnets in two to four places (you can guess the pid is pretty thick to fit them in safely. The magnets are stuck in after Gorilla glue is applied. This part was totally experimental, so go with what you find is strudiest for what you want.
It's been a while since I made these, but I still take them out and wear them sometimes. They're great with t-shirts, but denim lost me the first one with a simple smack against a door, I'm thinking.
I'd love to see one. Especially the idea with the magnets and back plate, being able to swap it between clothes without pin holes and what not. I'm booked in on thursday to have a ReBoot tattoo done and I'd love to have one of these to ride with me where i go.
Interesting, i just had to put aside $200 for the enzo tattoo, so I ll send ya a note later when i get some more spending money, I'll have to find out the shipping to Australia aswell for it.
